We hope you will join the DSF PTSA for the 2016-2017 school year!
Attention Parents of Seniors:
The class of 2017 officers are working on an upcoming Senior Field Trip at Byrd Theater on Tuesday, January 31st. We are very excited to bring back this Freeman Senior Movie Day tradition!!!
This information will also be posted to Schoology & Remind. In addition, copies can be provided by Mrs. Bargo (Room 222) or Ms. Cabell (Room 140).
We are in need of chaperones – right now, we are thinking around 20-25 parents would help tremendously. This way, we do not have to cap the number of students attending, nor would we need to pull teachers from instructional time and/or arranging coverage for those teachers. Please print and complete the linked permission slip and return it to school promptly. The top portion is the student permission slip and the bottom portion must be returned to be considered to chaperone.
Once the bus returns to school, the senior’s will have lunch in the cafeteria
o We are also in need of a handful of parents to help pick up lunch, as well as help set up in the teacher’s cafeteria (since we will be off campus assisting with the field trip). Please indicate on the permission slip linked above if you are able to help with this portion of the day. This will also help us to assure that we can get students back to their 5th period class on time.
MID TERM EXAM CANCELLATIONS
Midterm exams have been cancelled. However, students have the option to take exams, if they choose. On Tuesday, Jan. 17, 1st period teachers will hand a “Request to take a Midterm” form to any student requesting to take an exam. During the day, those students should present the form to the teachers in whose classes they are choosing to take the exam. The form must be initialed by their teachers, signed and returned to the main office by Thursday, Jan. 19th.
Opt-in Exams will be given on Jan. 24th and 25th.
Since taking a Midterm exam will impact a student’s semester average and final grades, students are advised to carefully review their current averages in Power School and consult with their teachers before opting to take the exam. The link below may help your student with the calculations www.tinyurl.com/dsfexamcalculator
Also, as a result of the exam cancellation, January 24th - 26th (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of next week) will now be FULL instructional days for students. Friday, Jan. 27th will remain a half-day for students.
AP NIGHT & CURRICULUM FAIR IN FEBRUARY
Attention Parents of 9th, 10th and 11th graders:
AP (Advanced Placement) Night will take place in the Freeman Auditorium on Thursday, February 2nd from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. If your child is considering signing up for an AP course for the 2017-2018 school year, you will want to attend this valuable event. AP Teachers will be presenting information and answering questions about their respective content areas, and the School Counseling department will give general information about AP courses and the AP Commitment form process. Signing up for an AP (college-level) course is a big commitment accompanied by extra responsibilities and homework outside of the classroom. We want our students to be successful while challenging themselves appropriately. We hope to see you there!
Freeman’s Curriculum Fair will also be held on Thursday, February 2nd in the cafeteria from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. This event is geared towards 8th grade students and their parents, and is designed to allow them an opportunity to learn more about the electives and core academic options at Freeman.

Parent Information: Drug Use warning Signs
Soon our students will be out of school with idle time on their hands. If parents are working, children - young and old - spend more time unsupervised, looking for something to do, right or wrong. Now is the time to get unneeded and unused medications out of your house and out of your medicine cabinet. Anyone who reads the paper, follows the news online or watches news on TV knows what a problem prescription drug abuse is and how it can be a gateway to heroin and other drugs. We are losing far too many young people to this horrible epidemic.
Given this situation, Bremo Pharmacy is doing its part to get unneeded or unused medications out of people's homes and medicine cabinets. As a service to the community, we have installed a permanent Drug Take back box in our pharmacy at 2024 Staples Mill Road.
You need not wait for the once a year Drug Take back day. Our Drug Take back box is available for the public's use anytime our pharmacy is open: Monday - Friday 9:00am - 6:00pm and Saturday 9:00am - 1:00pm. There is no charge, there is no catch - it is truly a community service to get unneeded and unused medications out of our home and out of the hands of our children - young and old.
